Frequently Asked Questions

How much does SMP cost?
The cost of SMP can vary depending on the provider and the individual. More complex cases requiring additional sessions will cost more than simpler cases. However, on average, the price range is usually between £500 and £2200.
What does the procedure involve?
The procedure involves the use of micropigmentation to apply small 'dots' of ink onto the scalp. A micro-needle is used to apply the ink between existing hair follicles. This can vastly improve the appearance of thinning hair, receding hairlines, bald patches, or even scarring. Different shades of ink can be selected to ensure the end result looks as natural as possible.
Is SMP a painful procedure?
Since SMP is a non-invasive procedure, it is relatively pain-free. Although some clients may experience very mild discomfort, there is usually no major concern. No pain medication or local anesthetics are necessary.
How many sessions will I require?
It depends on the individual and the intended outcome. Results can often be seen after only one session. However, most people require 3 to 4 sessions on average for the full effect to be seen.
Does SMP look natural?
Once the SMP process has been completed, the end result looks extremely natural. Different shades of ink can be used to provide the appearance of depth, and micro pigments can be matched to blend in with the existing hair colour. SMP also provides a highly natural appearance for receding hairlines and baldness.
Is SMP suitable for women?
SMP can be an effective treatment for women who are suffering from thinning hair or bald patches. The procedure is effective for different causes of hair loss, such as stress, menopause, medication, trauma, or genetics.
Is SMP suitable for alopecia?
SMP is a reliable treatment for individuals with alopecia. The procedure is effective for the most common types of alopecia, such as Alopecia Areata, Traction Alopecia, and Androgenetic Alopecia, but also the less common forms as well.
I have scarring on the scalp. Can SMP help?
For patients suffering from scarring, either from previous hair transplants or due to injury or surgeries, SMP is often very effective. The application of micro pigments will camouflage areas of scarring, while the use of a precise micro-needle makes the process largely pain-free.
Can I do it after a hair transplant OR can I have a transplant after SMP?
Clients who have undergone a hair transplant can be eligible for SMP, but this depends on the level of healing, the amount of hair growth, and the time elapsed from the previous transplant. It is also possible to have a hair transplant after SMP. A doctor or SMP specialist will advise on a case by case basis.
Is there a finance/payment plan available?
Yes, for clients who wish to spread the cost of the treatment over a period of months, a finance scheme is available through the Pretty Face Finance company.
